healthministerDr Matshidiso Moeti, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, has said that Nigeria would attain Universal Health Coverage (UHC) using  Primary Health Care as a tool.

Moeti said this at a press briefing organised by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, at the end of the visit of the WHO director to Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.

FG to Increase Health Budget in 2017

Senator Udo Udoma1 1The Federal Government on Tuesday said it would increase the budgetary allocation to the health sector in the 2017 fiscal year  to address some of the challenges facing it.
 
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma, disclosed  this when the Regional Director of the World Health Organisation, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, visited him in his office.
Nigerian Medical Association 1Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in the FCT, Dr Fatima Mairami, says tackling corruption that funnelled public funds into private pockets will free up more funds to make universal health care accessible to Nigerians.
 
Speaking as the association opened its annual general conference on Tuesday in Abuja, Mairami said, "If healthcare is affordable and accessible to all and sundry, then the issue of medical tourism will be lowered."

Expert call for unified healthcare system

2016 7largeimg112 Jul 2016 235024617The Federal Government yesterday unveiled a health intervention programme that would provide free surgery to 10,000 poor and needy Nigerians registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The programme, which will start on July 18 in 46 health facilities across Nigeria, will also extend free breast and cervical cancer tests to 18,000 Nigerians as well as free diabetes and hypertension tests to 500,000 others.

FGThe Federal Government has said that Nigeria loses about 2,300 under-five children and 145 women of child-bearing age to severe and acute malnutrition and iron deficiency respectively daily.
 
A statement by the Communication Specialist of United Nations Children’s Fund  (Media and External Relations), Mr. Geoffrey Njoku, obtained by The PUNCH on Sunday in Abuja, said, the Head (Nutrition), Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, gave the figure in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during the just-concluded media dialogue on child malnutrition, with the theme, “Good nutrition: An investment for the future.”
