HEALTH 300x211The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has commenced provision of free surgery to 10,000 poor and needy who have registered with the scheme across the country.

The zonal coordinator for North-central, Asmau Mohammed stated this yesterday at the National Health Insurance Scheme stakeholders’ Forum in Makurdi.

Mohammed said the aim of the scheme was to provide efficient health care to Nigerians at a reduced cost, saying the development became imperative to offer healthcare services and reduce poverty. She debunked the rumour that the scheme uses substandard drugs in providing cure to patients under its health care services, insisting that drugs used by the agency are certified and approved by the Federal Ministry of Health.

Asmau appealed to the beneficiaries to always endeavour to pay the 10 percent of the cost of drugs for the services rendered.
The zonal coordinator advised health care givers under the scheme to place patients as a priority in their work for effective health care delivery and to instil confidence of the public in the scheme.
