who warnsThe World Health Organisation has warned against mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines, noting that lack of study and data on its effect makes engaging in it dangerous.

Giving the warning during an online briefing on Monday, WHO’s chief scientist, Soumya Swaminatha advised against people mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines from different manufacturers, calling it a “dangerous trend” since there was little data available about the health impact.

“It’s a little bit of a dangerous trend here. We are in a data-free, evidence-free zone as far as to mix and match,” Swaminathan told an online briefing.

She also called for caution on decisions concerning booster COVID-19 doses, noting that decisions on third and fourth dozes should not be left to the people.

“It will be a chaotic situation in countries if citizens start deciding when and who will be taking a second, a third and a fourth dose,” she said.
