Dr. Egbemba said, “There is a reason your scrotum is outside your body. It is outside your body because your testicles require a lower temperature than the rest of your body to produce sperm.
“It is that tight brief you want to go and wear? Or is it the skinny jeans you want to go and wear? … that may be affecting your sperm production.”
The physician advised men to wear freer clothes that allow the scrotum to dangle and breathe.
He said, “For optimal sperm production, don’t tight your scrotum hold body, let it be free.”
Dr. Egbamba also cautions men against constantly using a laptop on their lap, noting that it could also hamper sperm production.
According to an online health portal, Healthline, “Wearing tight underwear can be uncomfortable, and in some cases, may have adverse effects on your health.
“For people with penises, wearing tight underwear can push the scrotum against the body, causing the testes to rise in temperature. Some research has shown this to correlate with a lower sperm count. If you’re trying to conceive, it may be a good idea to switch to boxers.
“The thought is that wearing tight underwear increases the temperature of the scrotum (much like going into a hot tub or placing a laptop on your lap), which affects the body’s production of sperm.
“Boxers may be a better choice for people trying to have children in the foreseeable future, but there doesn’t appear to be any adverse effects from wearing clingy briefs for those who don’t have parental aspirations,” it said.
