tariff reduces

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulation Authority (NNRA) has reduced the Authorization Fees it charges for the regulation of ionization radiation practice in Nigeria which includes X-ray and other forms of Nuclear medicine by 80%.

This was contained in a detailed gazette released by the agency which approved the new fees payable for Authorization, Regulation, Licensing, Permits, and any other services related to these. See here to download detailed document

The NNRA was established by the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Act of 1995 to regulate and ensure radiological protection and nuclear safety for  the protection of life, health, property and security from  radioactive sources and nuclear materials.

The very high fees related to operating medical equipment with these ionising radiation properties had however posed as a hindrance to affordable health care (for a list of the old fees, click here).

The new fee regime cuts across all the topical divisions under the purview of the Authority.

For example, under Radiotherapy, the old fee regime for the use of Linear Accelerators has given way to a new one as shown below.

This dramatic downward review cuts across all the divisions for which charges are applied.

Until now, industry players and experts had complained about the old fee regime as this was identified as contributing to an unfavourable business environment with multiplier effects cascading down to the patient.

The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria(HFN) had strongly advocated for the review of these tariffs and is glad to announce the success of our advocacy efforts along with various other bodies who have worked to make this a reality.

The Federation is confident that the Board of the NNRA has taken a step in the right direction towards building the healthcare sector that caters for the common Nigerian patient.
