The Public Relations Officer of NARD, Dr Eugene Uhuaba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Lagos, on Tuesday, that the association’s demands had not been met.

Niger Gov Declares War Against Drug Abuse

drugs 300x144Worried by the reported upsurge in drug abuse among the youth in Niger State, the governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has stated that he will wage war against indiscriminate drug dealings and peddling in the state.

A statement by the chief press secretary, Jibrin Baba Ndace stated that the governor has ordered the dealers and peddlers to relocate from the state or be ready for a war with his administration.

scientistsScientists have alerted that many common infections such as gonorrhea, malaria, tuberculosis, Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV), Influenza A virus, Staphylococcus aureus are becoming untreatable with antibiotics.

They say unless new drugs are found for common infections, the bugs resistant to antibiotics will kill more than cancer and 10 million people a year could die by 2050.

malaria 300x225In a bid to eradicate malaria in the country, the House of Representatives has directed its Committee on HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis, to investigate the efficacy of Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane (DDT) in the eradication of malaria.This is even as it expressed dismay that besides preventive and curative measures, Nigeria currently has no malaria-eradication policy or sustainable programme.

Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi, who disclosed this in Abuja when he received a delegation from the World Economic Forum, said the move has become imperative in view of discovery that epidemics and diseases are leading causes of deaths in Nigeria.

The Time is Now”. Tambuwal said that part of the drugs were the N 3.1 billion assorted NTDs drugs donated to the state government by Sight Savers International.
