Niger Gov Declares War Against Drug Abuse

drugs 300x144Worried by the reported upsurge in drug abuse among the youth in Niger State, the governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has stated that he will wage war against indiscriminate drug dealings and peddling in the state.

A statement by the chief press secretary, Jibrin Baba Ndace stated that the governor has ordered the dealers and peddlers to relocate from the state or be ready for a war with his administration.

He stated that the governor declared this, at the weekend in Sarkin Pawa, Munya local government area of the state following reports of increasing wave of drug induced unruly behaviours among youths in the state. “Reports reaching me and the terrible experience I had with some of these youths, most of whom are operating under the influence of drug call for urgent and decisive attention. “We are declaring total war against drug dealers and peddlers in the state. They are agents of destruction. We don’t want them and they are not allowed in Niger State. I am by this giving them quit notice from the state. Failure to pack out of the state, they should be ready to face the full wrought of the law,” the governor declared.

He also called for community participation in the drive against drug abuse by his administration saying that, “I ask members of the public to fish out and expose those selling drugs to our youth. You know those dealers and peddlers. You know the Chemist and Pharmacy where these drugs are being sold; you have to expose them and leave government to handle them. We can no longer tolerate these agents of death in our state”.

To this end, the governor directed that a communication channel be opened for members of the public to enable them transmit any information on drug dealers to his office while lamenting the effect of drug abuse to the society.
