Danish scientists have discovered that good heart and lung (cardiorespiratory) fitness in middle age is associated with a lower long term risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The scientists concluded that physical activity that boosts fitness should be encouraged “to delay development, progression, and death from COPD.

As the world marked the 2019 International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), has called for a holistic approach to tackling the menace of drug use in the country, adding that drug abuse is a major health problem globally, and it is no longer a secret that many Nigerian youths, especially those in secondary schools experiment with drugs.

The association made the call on Wednesday, 26 June 2019, during the National Art Competition for Secondary Schools, organised by the Drug Information Centre (DIC) of the ACPN, to commemorate this year International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, at Presken Hotel, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos.

The president of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, Dr Obinna Ogbonna, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to limit the appointment of the two ministers of health within the rank of the Nigeria Medical Association alone.

In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Ogbonna, who was re-elected national president of NUAHP at the union’s national delegates’ conference in Keffi, Nassarawa State last week, said it would be fair to all stakeholders in the health sector if the appointment was shared between the NMA and other allied health unions in the sector, noting that it would also establish balance of power among all stakeholders in the sector.

The Lagos State Government has said plans are at an advanced stage to build a General Hospital in the Amuwo Odofin Council Area of the state.

Dr Sani Aliyu, the Director-General, National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA) says U.S. invested up to 400 million dollars in the fight against the deadly HIV/AIDS virus in Nigeria.

Aliyu said this on Monday in Abuja at an event to celebrate and award individuals that have contributed to the fight against HIV/AIDS in the country. The director general said that the American Government had shown concern in fighting the scourge through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
