The recent letter from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to your office with the above caption refers. The Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN) is the umbrella of all Pharmacists that work in hospitals (government and private) and administrative positions such as Ministry of Health (both State and Federal), regulatory agencies such as NAFDAC, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and others.

House of Reps NigeriaThe House of Representatives has urged the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) to take urgent steps in controlling malaria epidemic in Kano State. This is as it said the programme should be aimed towards taking proactive measures in order to be better prepared and bring emergency situation such as the one in Kano under control.

The resolution was contained in a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Abubakar Nuhu Danburam.

Monkey poxFEAR, yesterday gripped residents of Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, following an outbreak of viral epidemic known as Monkey Pox in the state, with report that 10 persons are already infected.Authorities in the state were said to be tracking 49 persons alleged to have come in contact with the infected persons. 
 
The victims, according to sources, have been quarantined in an isolation centre created at the Niger Delta University Hospital, NDUTH, Okolobiri, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.The isolation centre was reportedly created by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and the epidemiological team of the state’s Ministry of Health at the ourbreak of the epidemic.
Mental HealthThe Retreat, Nigeria’s purpose built private mental hospital, based in Ikorodu, will hold a mental awareness and free mental health screening on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 to mark the World Mental Health Day.
 
WMHD, according to the World Health Organisation, is marked with the objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health.
Doctors in Training Some newly-inducted doctors at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, have called on government at all levels to provide adequate facilities and personnel toward a robust healthcare system in the country.
 
In separate interviews with the News men in Lagos, the new doctors said such step would also reduce incessant strikes among health and medical workers. One of the inductees, Dr Maryam Abdulfatah, said remuneration was too big for medical doctors considering the rigours and long period of studentship they passed through in school.
EbolaPublic health authorities across West Africa are considering stronger agreements to help the region better share data and transfer materials in efforts to strengthen the region’s ability to prevent and coordinate response to public health emergencies.
 
It comes amidst lessons the region has learnt in the wake of the 2014 outbreak of Ebola virus disease which hit hardest in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, and smaller epidemics of cholera, meningitis and Lassa Fever in Nigeria.

UnicefA global UNICEF report, launched in Abuja yesterday, shows that Nigeria is putting its children at risk of under-development, both physically and mentally, because critical national policies are not providing an adequate foundation for their growth.

The UNICEF report, Early Moments Matter for Every Child, outlines three policies that can give parents the time and resources needed to support their young children’s healthy development. Unicef The recommended policies are: two years of free pre-primary education; six months of paid maternity leave; and four weeks of paid paternity leave.

Reps Summon Health Minister over Monkey Pox

Isaac AdewoleThe House of Representatives on Tuesday resolved to invite minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole to explain the alarming situation of how Nigeria would depend on a laboratory in Dakar Senagal to analyse samples of monkey pox.

The House has then mandated the Committee on Health to investigate an. outbreak of Monkey pox in the country and urged Federal Government and International Community to support the country.
