Africa’s COVID-19 cases near 2.8m, deaths now 64,760

african covid 19The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention says deaths from COVID-19 in the African continent is now 64,760. The agency also disclosed that there are now 2,727,345 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Africa as of 31 December. 

Africa CDC disclosed this in via a tweet on its official Twitter handle @AfricaCDC on Friday. According to the agency, 2,279,397 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease in Africa. 

The CDC also stated that while the Southern African region with the highest figures for cases has recorded 1,164, 832 cases, 30,007 deaths and 969,773 recoveries; the Western African region has recorded 242, 576 cases, 3,238 deaths and 217,785 recoveries from COVID-19.

The breakdown by the CDC also indicated that while the Central African region has recorded 79,893 cases, 1,468 deaths, and 67,261 recoveries; the Eastern African region has recorded 321,385 cases, 5,944 deaths and 253,646 recoveries.

The Northern region on the other hand has recorded 924,660 cases, 24,103 deaths and 770,932 recoveries.
