The Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency has shut down Medville Global Health Centre, temporarily. This is not unconnected to the demise of the wife of a telecommunications engineer, Chibuike Nwachukwu, who alleged that his wife died at the hospital as a result of the facility’s incompetence.

The PUNCH had reported that Mr. Nwachukwu, has been thrown into mourning after his wife, Vivian, died during childbirth at the Medville Global Health Centre. Chibuike, who demanded justice, accused the management of the hospital of negligence.

He also noted that the child his wife gave birth to through caesarean section at the hospital had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the engineer’s wife started her antenatal in Anambra State, but later continued the session at the hospital when she came to Lagos.

Chibuike said his wife was attending antenatal at the hospital until March 27 when she was admitted to be delivered of the baby.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of HEFAMMA, Dr. Abiola Idowu disclosed that Medville Global Health Centre, which is located at 1, Bashiru Street, off Lateef Adegboyega Street, Ago Palace Way, Okota was sealed for not complying with the set standards.

Dr. Idowu explained that a team of the agency was deployed to the facility to investigate the demise of the wife of the man identified on Twitter as Triplem C Mchaty @scantee, who tweeted on 3rd April 2022, alleging that his wife had passed on at the hospital as a result of the facility’s incompetence.

She stated that preliminary investigations carried out by the team revealed that the hospital is not registered with HEFAMAA.

This, she said, contravened the 2006 Health Sector Reform Law.

“It means the facility was operating illegally,” she said.

She added that the team also discovered that the hospital had inadequate personnel.

She disclosed that the Chairman of the agency, Dr. Solanke Koya, has ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the facts of the death.

Idowu, however, stated that the agency took the crucial decision to further protect the general public pending the final outcome of the ongoing investigations.

She called on health facilities across the state to adhere strictly to the set standards and join hands with the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to fish out the quacks within the state’s health system to safeguard the health of the citizens.
