The management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja has refuted claims that the incident of a man caught while impersonating a nurse occurred at the hospital. Earlier on Wednesday, a viral video circulating on social media has shown how a dark-complexioned man was apprehended after allegedly trying to steal a baby at a Lagos hospital.

In the video, the man was seen wearing a nurse uniform while officials of the hospital and the Police were escorting and questioning him. The man who claimed he came from the Fadeyi area of Lagos, denied he had come to the hospital to steal babies.

PUNCH HealthWise learnt that the man gained access into the changing room of the nurses at the Randle General Hospital, Lagos, and changed into one of the nurses’ uniforms before he was apprehended.

Meanwhile, the management of LASUTH said the incident did not occur at the hospital while reacting to a Facebook post by one Sefinatu Umaru claiming that the video of a man impersonating a nurse occurred in Ayinke House, LASUTH.

In a post on its Instagram page @lasuthikeja, the management said, “We wish to affirm that the event in the video did not happen in Ayinke House in LASUTH but at Randle General Hospital, Surulere. The Medical Director of the hospital has already given a statement to that effect.

“We implore social media users to make effort in ascertaining the origin of their stories before publishing. Unverified stories like this have the capacity to create unnecessary fear and panic in the populace.

“The above clarification is, therefore, made to invalidate the misleading information credited to LASUTH by Safinatu Umaru.”
