People over 50 suffering severe COVID-19 complications –Health ministry

people overThe Federal Ministry of Health says people above 50 years are coming down with more severe COVID-19 infections. The ministry urged Nigerians in this category to take better precaution to prevent getting infected with the viral infection.

The ministry made the call via its official Twitter handle @Fmohnigeria on Wednesday. “COVID-19 is severe in persons who are 50 years and above, especially those that live with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer,” it tweeted.

The health ministry urged those over 50 and all Nigerians to continue to comply with COVID-19 preventive measures.

It noted that preventing the viral condition is now very crucial to reduce transmission in this period of the second wave.

“Adhere to all non-pharmaceutical measures on #COVID19 prevention. #TakeResponsibility and #StaySafe.

“Curbing the spread of #COVID19inNigeria requires our collective efforts,” it tweeted.

The ministry also stated that many of those spreading COVID-19 infection in the community could be people without visible symptoms, adding that all Nigerians must take responsibility to protect themselves and prevent the infection.

“A lot of people who have #COVID19 may be #asymptomatic, but can spread the disease to other people without knowing. Adhere to all #COVID19 preventive measures. #TakeResponsibility

“We have worked with relevant government agencies to put in place public health advisories that will help to curb the spread of #COVID19Nigeria.

“#TakeResponsibility. Wear #facemask Practice good hand and respiratory hygiene and Keep two-metre distance,” the ministry reiterated.
