Lagos leads as NCDC reports 582 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths

Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and 14 other states reported 582 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to figures released on Thursday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The health agency also reported 11 COVID-19 related deaths. The NCDC disclosed this on its official website on Thursday. According to the agency, 582 new cases were recorded from Rivers, Lagos, the FCT and 14 other states.

Lagos recorded the highest number of new infections with 175, Rivers – 124, Edo – 60, Delta – 57, Akwa Ibom – 44, Anambra – 25, Bayelsa – 22, Gombe – 19, Ekiti – 12, FCT – 12, Kaduna – 11, Kano – 6, Benue – 5, Plateau – 5, Ogun – 3 and Jigawa – 2 cases.

The health agency said the 582 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 193, 013

However, 179, 000 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.

With 11 COVID-19 related deaths reported, the death toll from the virus has risen to 2,480, NCDC said.

It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
