THE Federal Government has said that it is working hard to achieve the Universal Health Care (UHC) in Nigeria by 2020 using ICT to save one Million Lives (SOMLs) in Nigeria. The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Communications Technology, Dr. Tunji Olaopa made the assertion at the preparatory technical meeting to Africa eHealth Summit 2016, held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja. Dr. Olaopa, said work was going on so that this goal can be attained on this laudable initiative and make it faster and in a more cost efficient manner.Since then, the CT Ministry has been mapping out strategies whereby the strategic part of the effort of this SOMLs initiative and the ministry of health and communication technology will help in the direction of having the Universal Health Care (UHC), in Nigeria in 2020. According to Dr. Olaopa, one of the roles of ICT health is the development of national framework to guide and providing direction for the deployment and utilization of ICT in health care, which it hopes to make possible through synergies with all MDAs.
The Permanent Secretary, who was represented by Dr. Tope Fadeshemi said part of the master plan is to involve every sector since health is an area that cannot be kept aside and with this realization the government is optimistic that the target would be met.
