HFN PARTAKES IN BUDGET ADVOCACY MEETING

BUDGET2016 2Following reactions to the current budget process, various groups under the auspices of Partnership for Advocacy in Child and F‎amily Health (PAFaH) gathered for a one-day meeting to discuss issues pertaining to the Healthcare aspects of the Budget with the view to advocate for a more transparent and efficient budgeting process. 

The objective of the meeting was to collaborate ‎with the government to identify gaps in the budget and budget process in order to improve the process and ensure a holistic, efficient and value-driven budget that can potentially address priority areas.

 The meeting brought together various groups, civil society organizations, and associations within the Health sector to discuss various issues and come up with key priorities for the 2016 Health budget.

The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) played an active role in this process advocating for a budgeting process that will ‎ catalyze private sector involvement and increase incentives for private sector participation Other issues such as the inclusion of 1% of the consolidatedBUDGET2016 1 revenue to be allotted to the Basic Health Provision Fund in line with the recently passed National Health Act, increase in budgetary allocation to healthcare, improved monitoring and evaluation processes amongst others, were discussed. At the end, a communiqué was developed for dissemination to the Federal Ministry of Health and federal lawmakers.

The program ended with a press conference by the Chairman of Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria, Dr. Ben Anyene; the president of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Kayode Obembe; and the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the HFN, Mr. Remi Adeseun who also doubles as the Program Director of PSN - PACFah‎.
