The Lagos State Government says it will start rolling out COVID-19 vaccines by the weekend. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Wednesday when the World Health Organisation Representative to Nigeria, Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, paid him a courtesy visit at the State House, Alausa.“Sanwo-Olu said he was optimistic that the vaccine rollout would be successfully implemented, adding that the State’s Primary Healthcare Board would lead the effort in achieving herd immunity,” he tweeted.
Adding, Sanwo-Olu said “We have instituted a steering committee for the vaccine administration, which comprises health practitioners in the public and private sectors. They have designed a robust vaccine implementation strategy and they have identified various segments of our citizens who need to get first and in what order.”
Recall that the first consignment of 507,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines provided by the Federal Government arrived in Lagos on Tuesday.
The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board had on Monday said the COVID-19 vaccination in the state will be done in phases in line with the Federal Government plan.
It added that the vaccine will be conducted in four phases until all eligible persons are vaccinated as more vaccines become available.
Highlighting the phases of the vaccination, the board tweeted: “Phase 1: The category of eligible persons for phase 1 are Health care workers, frontline workers, Workers at ports of entry (air, land, and seaports), Military, COVID 19 rapid response team (RRT), Laboratory Network, Policemen, Petrol Station Workers, Contingency other frontline workers.
“Phase 2: Old people from age 50 years and above as well as those with co-morbidities aged 18 – 49 years of age.
“Phase 3: Those in States and LGAs with the highest burden of disease who missed phases 1 and 2.
“Phase 4: Other eligible populations as vaccines become available.”
