Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, CEO, Health Strategy & Delivery Foundation and HLA Advisory Board member told our correspondent in Abuja that LEAPS Programme is a fellowship programme designed to enhance the leadership acumen and execution capacity of senior healthcare administrators and policymakers operating at a state or regional level. LEAPS supports fellows pursue primary health care development goals, and fosters peer networking, collaboration and team work, while building managerial skill and leadership effectiveness.
Dr. Ohiri said the trainers selected the first group of seven states across the geopolitical zones so they could capture different states with different issues and complexities. Also speaking, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, represented by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Amina Shamaki, said state governors should give leadership, provide funding and build capacity in primary health care development.
Dr. Muntaqa Umar-Sadig, the MD/CEO, Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PHN) said Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede ,Mr. Jim Ovia, Mrs. Sola David Borha, and other corporate leaders have come together to leverage private sector management techniques and capabilities to support states to accelerate improvement in health outcomes.
