Willie ObianoSixty-three primary healthcare centres in Anambra will soon be upgraded to world class standards, Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano , has said.

Obiano who made the disclosure at the Annual General Meeting/Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Medical Association, Anambra State branch, said the face-lift would spread across the 526 centres in the 21 local
government areas in the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike, the governor said the intervention would be spearheaded by the recently constituted State PrimaryHealthcare Development Agency with a chairman and executive secretary. The Local Organising Committee chairman, Prof. Akujobi Nne, said the conference provided avenue for members to update themselves on the current trends in patients care, stimulate research and scientific writing and review the association's progress.

Willie Obiano, has also expressed dismay over the incessant industrial actions by medical practitioners in the various teaching hospitals and medical schools across the country. Obiano who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike, at the Annual General Meeting/Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Medical Association, Anambra State Branch, described the medical practitioners as special persons with enormous expectations from the society.

He appealed that rather than down tool, they should explore other options to press home their demands including ensuring a robust cordial relationship between them and the administrators. Reacting to the issue of intending couples that fail to undergo genotype test before marriage, the governor said the government, through its Sickle Cell Law has mandated that people should know their genotype.
