Wabba said this while receiving the NHIS boss who led the management team of the scheme to pay him a courtesy visit at the Labour House, Abuja, on Tuesday. The NLC’s President also faulted the idea of committing the NHIS funds to the Treasury Single Account, saying the arrangement should be revisited. He argued that it would be improper for sick workers, who contributed their 10 per cent medical allowance to the scheme, to be made to write for the release of funds contributed by them.

 

Wabba stressed that the NHIS fund should not be treated as revenue as it was money contributed by workers. He said, “We are of the position that the funds should be applied strictly in accordance with the law. The funds is not revenue; it is workers’ money. The idea of committing this fund to the process of TSA should be revisited. “It would not be proper for sick workers to be made to write for the release of monies contributed by them. “Community health insurance should be strengthened. A particular HMO misappropriated N90m, the matter is on. It should be referred to the EFCC, to serve as deterrent to others.”

 

He also called for an extension of the medical coverage of the funds to cancer and other terminal diseases. Speaking also, the NHIS boss, said that only federal workers were making contributions to the scheme.
