Saudi-German Hospital Plans a $30m Cancer Centre in Nigeria

SAUDI GERMAN HOSPITALCancre patients in Nigeria can now heave a sigh of relief as the Saudi German Hospital, Dubai plans to establish a $30 million cancer treatment centre in Nigeria within the next one year. 
 
The top management of the hospital who arrived Nigeria some few weeks ago are already talking with thtr Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) as well as other stakeholders in the health sector in facilitating the establishment of a diagnostic as well as a befitting Cancer hospital in Nigeria. 
 
The leader of the Saudi German Hospital Dubai, Dr. George Davis said that the hospital is prepared to work in partnership with concerned Nigerian businessmen and professionals to make their dream a reality. "We are looking at multiple hospitals. This is why we are also looking for Nigerian businessmen or medical professionals to come forward and partner with us under "Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement" he said. 
 
Saudi-German Hospital is a healthcare conglomerate in the Middle East presently operates a well developed modem Diagnostic Centre in Saudi, Dubai Yemen and in Egypt with over 300-bed capacity in each of the centres for the treatment of cancer, and other ailments. Davis who lamented the burden of increasing cancer cases in Allica, stated that with new technologies available, it has now become easier to detect the disease at a very early stage and treat same immediately. 
 
According to him, Saudi-German Hospital will also assist in the training of Nigerian doctors and medical professionals from this region and set up telemedicine centres in the country stressing that in long term, the investment will help to develop the healthcare system and provide cost effective treatment to Nigerians.  "We are looking at long term strategic plan to have tie with local hospitals in the healthcare systems of the country. For now, we shall first of all establish the hospital in Abuja before going to Kano and Kaduna. We have concluded arrangements to ensure that 80 per cent of the workforce will be recruited from Nigeria" he said 
 
On the issue of affordability in accessing treatment from the hospital by the very poor, Davis noted: "The management of the hospital will surely take into consideration the local market prices to ensure that we make services affordable by the very poor. We will not price ourselves above local market levels so that more people will come to us"  In her remarks, the Patient Affairs Supervisor of the Saudi-German Hospital, Semira Dikbas said that as a first contact person of the hospital, she was always ready to give the best to patients at all times. 
 
"Our vision is to be the regional healthcare leader through the largest network of hospitals, delivering excellence in quality of care to patients, and creating value for all stakeholders" he said.
