The Head of investigation in RRBN, Malachy Ejimofor, said the arrest “will mark the beginning of a series of enforcement exercise nationwide.” According to him, the exercise was in preparation for the 2016 World Radiography Day. He commended the Registrar/Chief Executive of RRBN, Dr. Michael Okpaleke, saying radiography inspectors “have been mobilised to visit every nook and cranny where radiography practice is being compromised nationwide.”
Meanwhile, practitioners have been advised to go for further training in radiotherapy, which is a kind of treatment for cancer using high energy radiation. Speaking during a training programme for radiographers, organised by the RRBN in Abuja, the Chief Radiographer, National Hospital, Abuja, Tijani Abdulkadir, said there were very few radiotherapists in Nigeria, and that the country was in dire need of more.
Abdulkadir said that without adequate radiotherapists, there could be no effective treatment and management of cancer in the country. At the event, Okpaleke, represented by the Chief Radiographer of the RRNB, Michael Bamidele, said the essence of the training was to ensure that radiographers nationwide were well equipped on the CT Scan modality.
