Though no reason was given for Odagme’s sacking, the governor was said to have wished him well in his future endeavour. “The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has relieved the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Theophilus Odagme, of his appointment as a commissioner in the State Executive Council.

 

“Briefing journalists after the Rivers State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, the state Information Commissioner, Dr. Austin Tam-George, noted that the governor wished the former commissioner well in his future endeavour,” the statement read. When contacted, Odagme declined comments and simply told our correspondent through text message that “It is well.”

 

However, investigation from our correspondent indicated that Odagme was relieved of his duty because he expunged a hi-tech equipment earlier itemised from a list of health kits to be purchased by the state government.

 

It was learnt that though Odagme, in his defence at the executive council meeting, explained that the equipment was removed from the list of items to be procured because a similar apparatus was still functional at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital.

 

His explanation, it was learnt, was not good enough to save his position as the Health commissioner.
