2017 3large Participants during the workshop organised by HIFASS to draw a five year strategic plan for the group held in AbujaThe federal government has been urged to address the inequity and inequality in the healthcare sector by strengthening manpower and infrastructure in the health system.

A former minister of state for defense and president of Health Initiatives for Safety and Stability in Africa (HIFASS) Dr. Roland Oritsejafor who gave this call recently, said it was high time that social status stopped determining Nigerians’ accessibility healthcare.

He was speaking at a workshop to draw a five year strategic plan development for the group in expounding its focus from providing strategic work force that supports Nigerian military to supporting vulnerable populations.

While noting that health should be given due cognizance in achieving the sustainable development goals, he stressed that “health is everything and a human right issue and part of the issue of population health is to address the issue of inequity and inequality of humanity.”

Oritsejafor added that the group had been at the forefront of making military health facilities available to local communities.

“The military have standard health infrastructure while those around them do not have access. Part of the vision was letting the community access such facilities as a means of addressing this inequality,” he said.

He said the workshop attended by representatives from the Nigerian Ministry of Defense, Federal Ministry and Health and other stakeholder would help the group in delivering on its mandate.
