Minister Solicits Media Support For Health Budget

The Hon. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has called on Nigerian media to support the implementation of the Health Sector budget. The Minister made call while speaking at the conference organized by the Association of Nigeria Health Journalists (ANHEJ), held in Abuja.

Prof.Adewole said that the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari has been more diligent, more resourceful and transparent in terms of budget release. He reiterated the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Health in achieving the Universal Health Coverage, Programme aimed at providing healthcare services to Nigerians without financial stress. 

He called on the media to join other stakeholders in canvassing for more funding for the health sector, stressing that the challenges facing the health sector are enormous.     

‘’ There is need for wealthy individuals to invest in the health sector as business venture, I told politician come 2019 election, put your money in the health sector and the people will vote for you’’.

Prof. Adewole said that there is need to hold the State Governments accountable of progress or otherwise in the health sector of their respective states because health is in the concurrent list of Nigerian constitution and state must have the budget line on it.

He called for synergy between the Federal and State Government for better healthcare delivery. Adding that healthcare is a fundamental right of the people of the country.  

In his goodwill message, the Commissioner of Health, Niger State, Dr. Mustafa Jubrin, said that the Health Sector require more funding to enable the sector tackle its various outbreak in the community.

Earlier in his welcome remark, the President of the Association of Nigeria Health Journalists, Mr. Marcus Fatunmole, said that the association would monitor and report expenditures in the Health. Sector. He called for full implementation of the National Health Act which he said would drastically solve the issues with Primary and Secondary levels of healthcare delivery in the country.
