Speaking to newsmen, The Medical Director, FMC, Ebute-Metta, Dr. Adedamola Dada described the claims as baseless.
“The alleged deterioration in the quality and safety of care of the centre is false, there has been the massive upgrading of equipment, clinic and training of personnel in the facility since the last one year he took over the office.”
Dada noted that the hospital is doing their best to the benefit of the country.”We have renovated and rehabilitated a umber of facilities here.
In fact, the toilets are manned by personnel’s who clean immediately after patient’s use. We have a 24hour dialysis centre here being one of the cheapest around. Some of the patients who still cannot pay for the dialysis, we still grant them wavier.
Also in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), we have a very cheap admission fee, once you need ICU services, we admit without the patient paying a dime. “Some actually pay later why some do not pay”
“Though we have the challenges of financial constrains, but I believe we were appointed to think out outside the box.
“There is no money doesn’t mean we will fold our hands. With the ones we have, we are making the very best out of. Come few years we will have got to where we want to be,” the MD said.
Dada added: “For instance, if you look at the neonatal intensive care, when we came, virtually all the incubators are not working.
People were afraid, the pediatricians were afraid to put babies there and incubators are expensive. I called in the General Electric, they were able to supply us incubators, and we paid in instalments.”
He continued: “The FMC is not a specialized cancer centre; we do not need specialised cancer equipment.
We are able and very frequently offer routine cancer care including surgeries, and those patients who require specialised cancer services are referred to appropriate specialized cancer centers which is the practice worldwide.”
