“The way we procure drugs must be streamlined to ensure technical and financial efficiency so that the quality is guaranteed from the point of procurement. We must procure where possible from the manufacturers.
If the manufacturers are not in the country, we must procure from distributors and agents that have the manufacturers’ authorization. Allowing just anybody to sell drugs to our hospitals will encourage smart businessmen to bring unwholesome drugs to our health space,” Ipaye said. He noted that leadership responsibility in the health sector was about managing resources efficiently to deliver the desired results. “The technical skills are not enough.
There must be a deliberate decision for the leaders of health sectors to build the required capacity of leaders across all levels so that the management of our hospitals and the health space will be well structured for the result,” he said.
The Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Lagos State branch, Dr Saliu Oseni, said the retreat and the health summit was organized by the association to contribute its own quota to the improvement of policies and implementation in the health sector.
“In view of the fact that there will be a change in the political baton in the state soon, it has become crucial for us to review the recurrent challenges affecting health care delivery in the state and indeed, the country at large and make available workable solutions. “In this regard, it has become pertinent to engage the stakeholders on attitudinal issues and strategy to improve performance and work output, as well as issues surrounding industrial disharmony,” Oseni said.
