accreditationIt was a week-long celebration filled with unquantifiable joy and happiness as the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS) of the Kaduna State University in conjunction with staff members of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, celebrated the attainment of full accreditation status of the faculty by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and an interim accreditation status by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

Prior to the accreditation exercise, a statement from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kaduna State University revealed that the faculty has got seven (7) sets of students with two sets (KASU/12/PHM and KASU/13/PHM) unable to commence the compulsory internship program due to the lack of PCN accreditation of the faculty. However, by virtue of the current success attained, the affected sets of students can now proceed to apply for internship placement after their Oath taking/Induction ceremony into the Pharmacy profession in no distant time from now.

Part of the activities to mark the Post- Accreditation Celebration by the student group was awards presentation to the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean, and all the Heads of Departments (HODs) in the faculty. While the high point of the event was the Celebration Rally round the university campus.

According to the management of the faculty, the induction ceremony of the pioneer and second set of graduates is scheduled to hold in no distant time from now.

The faculty, established in 2012 with Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora as the foundation dean, commenced with 35 pioneer students (KASU/12/PHM) and five departments (Departments of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Pharmacognosy and Drug Development, Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacy Management, and Pharmaceutical & Medicinal Chemistry).

Being a former Registrar of the PCN for eight years, the statement disclosed that Prof. Mora brought his wealth of experience on accreditation exercises and other requirements for the management of Pharmacy Schools in Nigeria into place, by ensuring that the faculty operated a system in line with the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) of both NUC and PCN with periodic reviews to evaluate the progress made

At the end of Mora’s tenure, Prof. Ben A. Chindo was appointed the new dean of faculty and he was able to build on the foundation of his predecessor, as evident with the faculty’s attainment of  full NUC accreditation with 100 percent score in Course Content in May 2018, which enabled the pioneer students (KASU/12/PHM) to be part of the university’s 3rd Convocation Ceremony in December 2018, with Kenneth Bitrus David bagging the Vice-Chancellor’s prize to the Best Graduating Student by faculty.
