Resident doctors in the South-West have urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum to prevail upon state governors to pay the salary arrears of their members in the teaching hospitals of state-owned universities.Sanni said, “The issues are those of the state university teaching hospitals. Many of them across the country owe salary arrears; particularly at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, where our members are being owed 14 months’ salary arrears.
“We also mentioned other universities in the South-West where our members are being owed a certain amount of salary arrears; many of them are also understaffed, governments are not replacing those who left; so the workload on the doctors is getting heavier every day.”
Sanni listed the affected facilities in the South-West to include Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital; LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo; Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu; and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
