govt promisesThe Lagos State Government has said it is supporting people living with HIV/AIDS in the state with equipment, training and grants to make them economically independent in view of the hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Aids Control, Dr Monsurat Adeleke, said the state would continue to give priority to the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. A statement on Wednesday said Adeleke spoke during the presentation of sewing machines to some beneficiaries at the agency’s head office.

Adeleke said the empowerment scheme was a reflection of the inclusive administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who doubles as the chairman of the agency.

She noted that 50 other beneficiaries had been selected for four weeks of vocational training.

“It will be difficult to eradicate HIV/AIDS if the economic empowerment of our clients is not considered. It is realised that if one is hungry, there is the likelihood of embarking on risk-taking behaviour, therefore this empowerment initiative has become imperative.

“It also gladdens my heart to inform all our beneficiaries that one of our line ministries, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has partnered LSACA to give free four weeks vocational training, as part of their contributions to mitigating the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state,” she added.to ensure that producers are mindful of maintaining acceptable products, qualities and standards for a safer and secure populace,” he said.
