“Different women have different timelines for the return of their fertility after childbirth. While most women take a couple of months, especially if they are doing exclusive breastfeeding, there are also those who only need like four to six weeks.
“Whether or not they are doing exclusive breastfeeding, they are still very fertile. Except you have the powers to accurately predict the exact month you are going to start ovulating after childbirth, you better go and get a proper and effective contraceptive before you resume having sex with your husband.”
According to an article published online by a the health education site, verywell.com, it can take either a few weeks, a few months, or longer for a woman’s body to become fertile again after a baby is born.
The article noted that after vaginal childbirth, it takes about six weeks for the body to heal and if a woman does not breastfeed, her period may return around six weeks as well.
It said, “if you choose to breastfeed, you may not see the return of your period and your fertility for much longer as breastfeeding can delay the return of a woman’s menstrual cycle (including ovulation) and therefore putting off her ability to get pregnant again for a while.
“Breastfeeding less often, such as only in the morning and at bedtime, may be enough to bring about the return of your period.”
