Dr Festus Oshoba, a devout Christian, was born in 1958. He had his elementary education in Catholic Schools in Ile-Ife, Osun State where his parents settled.  Having passed out of St John’s Grammar School in 1976 with the West African School Certificate in Division One, he was employed to teach Mathematics and Physics in the junior school post-graduation in recognition of his academic brilliance. He was admitted to study Medicine at the University of Ilorin in 1977 as the pioneer set of Nigerians to do so through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

In 1984, he graduated as one of the two best graduating students in Medicine. This was the nadir of a 7-year streak of winning many undergraduate prizes. After his internship at the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, he joined the Lagos State Civil Service as a medical officer in October 1986. For the next four years, he was trained in ophthalmology, a record time. He has had several skills and knowledge upgrade in Cornea and anterior segment as well as public health ophthalmology. He is trained in cataract microincision surgery and phacoemulsification.

In addition, he is a Chartered Administrator par excellence having completed the Corporate Managerial Administration course of the Chartered Institute of Administration and subsequently rose through the ranks to become a Fellow of the body from an Associate. This keen interest in Administration culminated in a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Lagos in 2002. Three years later, he bagged a Masters degree in Public Health from the same institution. He also bagged a bachelor’s degree in Law from the National Open University of Nigeria in January 2015.

As an entrepreneur, he founded Ladkem Eye Clinic, which has been providing excellent eye care services delivery to Nigerians and Foreigners alike since its inception over twenty years ago. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the hospital. He serves as the Vice President of the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria where his vast knowledge and witty contributions have been of immense value to the Federation.
